NCICA PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Kansas City, Missouri – NCICA Convention 2010

NCICA Convention 2010 is to be held October 7 to 10, 2010 in the historic city of Kansas City, Missouri.   Our Convention Host(s) are NCICA President Don Tracey and wife Alice who selected Kansas City, Missouri, after visiting several other Midwest locations. Forms for registration ( Hotel and Convention ) are contained on this web site.  It is appreciated that everyone  register with the Hilton Airport Hotel with which President Tracey has made arrangements to enjoy their excellent facilities at equally excellent rates. Immediately is the incentive to make reservations to allow acquisition of additional rooms if the number of members attending exceed the rooms presently set aside for the  convention.  It is assumed that Hotel policy is Individual reservations must be canceled  72 hours before the date of arrival to avoid a penalty of  a one night room charge plus tax.  Sign in will be on the 7th   and is a day to reacquaint with old friends and greet new attendees. Please note: Kansas City has an excellent airport served by Southwest Air and several other airlines. As with previous conventions the 2010 Convention location is convenient to the Interstate and the Airport. Our hosts are planning a visit to the Truman Presidential Library and Home in Independence. As we all know, the famous slogan “The Buck Stops Here” occupied Truman’s desk in the White House, “give ‘em hell Harry” - a notable watch word and Poker on the Delaware marked the everyday quality of a great President. Also offered to the conventioneers on the tour schedule is a National World War I Museum located in Kansas City that has the second largest collection of WW I relics in the world. One can sense the influence of a future President, visually impaired, determined to fight for his country in the “great war” in spite of his physical limitations and equally determined that the sacrifices made on behalf of the free world would not be forgotten. Was it fate that an Artillery man from W.W.I should, after Three days of soul searching deliberation, end WWII. History also places Kansas City squarely in the U.S. food chain. A former trail head for cattle drives, it still boasts the finest beef steaks in the U.S. As the GS Coordinator suggests- bring your steak appetites to the convention; and, if ‘legend’ is true, we won't be disappointed. Missouri’s geographic location has permitted a wide variety of crops to be grown -hay, wheat, cotton, oats with corn being the leading field crop. Corn is used to feed the hogs and cattle grown for the stockyards and packing plants. Overall, about three fourths of the land is used for farming. Missouri’s Industry , though perhaps limited in comparison to the past, is the production of apples, coal, corn, meat packing, cattle/farming, wheat, brewing (yes, brewing) , flour, boots and shoes. The most famous of all ‘products’ exported by Missourians was the MULE. I guess we can now give credence to the statement “ Stubborn as a Missouri Mule.” Not only is it a distributing and marketing point for a tremendous area west and south , Terraces that rise from the Missouri River have parks and scenic drives that rank high among civic improvements. A point of city pride is the ‘outstanding’ Nelson Art Museum a must see for those arriving early or staying later.
