Messages to MI Personnel

As in past years, the NCICA 2007 Convention offered an opportunity to be with old friends and shake hands with new.  Our stay in the vicinity of Columbus enabled a ‘down town’ visit and tour of the central part of the city. Interesting sites were the renovations to the city that showed commitment to the ‘health’ of the city, strong support to Columbus’  sport teams - Hockey and Baseball- and recognition of its value as a ‘city of and for the people’ of Columbus and its environs.  The convention was actually held in Dublin, O, a little outside Columbus.  NCICA conventioneers toured the Wright-Patterson Air Base/Museum where the history of flight in the U.S. was carefully preserved in aircraft from the Wright brothers to the modern Stealth.  Dioramas illustrated the progress through reproduction of various bench marks in air development.  In the course of our touring activities, we ultimately wound up at The Sausage Haus, one of Columbus’s finest German eateries in the heart of the old Brauerei (Brewery) district.  The food was excellent, entertainment was old German songs (modern stuff too) and the light and dark beers flowed.  On Saturday, we celebrated the convention with our Banquet and Guest Speaker, Albert P.C. Lefebvre member and Past President of the Military Intelligence Association of New England.  His presentation wove an intriguing account of his experiences in French Indo China as a successful undercover agent for the U. S. Military.  One of the very few successful agents sent to infiltrate military operations in Indo China.  He has chronicled his experiences in two books; “Dirigos Prisoner” and “Call it Again”.  He is now working on a third.  Oh yes, his escape from Indo China/Viet Nam was in a box (yup, a box- not a coffin). We were also fortunate to have John Koehler who is well known as a Reporter, former Intel. Agent and author speak at the General meeting.  One of his books is titled “Stasi”- a real eye opener about East Germany under Communist rule.  His latest, “Holy Mole” promises to be just as intriguing as “Stasi” is to the intelligence community.  Both authors are highly recommended reading.  A third agent of note was Rene DeFourneaux, the Fox, our noted speaker at the 2006 Convention who has also written of his exploits in WWII France.  As you may surmise, the NCICA conventions are real ‘grabbers’ in presenting speakers who were at the heart of Intelligence activity.  Al Lefebvre- modest, quiet, soft spoken- one who managed to survive where others hadn’t.  John Koehler, an Agent with purpose - bringing to light the activity of the Communist Intelligence agencies in post WWII Europe.  Rene DeFourneaux, WWII, French Underground, another successful Intelligence Agent.

-Kudos-

We encourage NCICA members to consider attending the NCICA 2008 Convention
