NCICA Chairman's Commentary

Convention 2010 is being held in Kansas City, Missouri, and is being presided over by Don Tracey, elected NCICA 2010 President. Don and his wife Alice hail from Jacksonville , Illinois. After traveling across the midwest seeking a site for the 2010 Convention, they chose a central location- Kansas City, MO, with headquarters in the Hilton Airport Hotel. Convention 2010 dates are October 7 to October 10, with special rates for three days before and three days after the convention. The additional days are to accommodate those who wish to come early and stay later in order to enjoy more of what Kansas City has to offer. NCICA Conventions provide opportunities to share with people who have the same interests in Military Intelligence and Counter Intelligence as former members of America’s Secret Army. Another point in attending NCICA conventions is that it provides an incentive to travel to various geographic and historic points of interest in the United States. Our members that do attend span more than a half century as short time and career agents that, like all of us, recognize the kinship we share. From former officers to the grunt, there is no rank and no distinction - we are what we are, people who worked silently and unrecognized to insure the safety of this country. Brothers all.

If you were unable to attend the 2009 convention, we urge you to consider coming to Convention 2010. Volunteers are the machinery that keeps NCICA functioning. In 2009 our convention was held in Charleston, South Carolina. We toured the city in horse/mule drawn carriages that provided a pleasant experience. Some of the members toured Fort Sumter (where the Civil War was started) and others elected to visit the carrier Yorktown anchored in the harbor and is now a floating museum. One can only think of the movie “Tora,Tora, Tora” and the significance of the Yorktown in the Pacific theater of operation. In touring the city, we found the ‘natives’ to be personable, laid back and in no hurry . Side walk vendors had exquisite marsh grass woven baskets, the Marketplace offered local craft ware and the churches had an open-doors and historical information for all tourists It was interesting to find that a significant number of Presidents were allied with the Hugenot Church. All the churches visited were unique, old and stunning ; unfortunately it was impossible to visit the 100 plus Charleston churches. Following the tour of Charleston, we swapped carriages for buses to the Citadel- the most prestigious Military College of South Carolina . Front seats on the parade grounds allowed us to review the Cadets as they performed their march routine. A fly-over by a B-25 (WWII Bomber) and a C5A Cargo plane to honor three Medal of Honor recipients who were guests of the Citadel, was an awesome sight. The Banquet speaker was Citadel graduate and former Commandant, Col. John Lackey. Col. Lackey, now retired, spoke of his Military Intelligence past and presented his thoughts about future Military Intelligence operations. His commentary met with approval by all in attendance. Once again, the President and the voluntary contributions of NCICA members made this an outstanding convention. In Kansas City, we will come a little closer to the modern military (well, sort of) as we tour the WWI Museum and where the ‘buck’ stops and be thoroughly versed in the term “I’m from Missouri!”
